I was asked a few weeks ago if I would review a product from the The Cutlery Commission - which as their title suggests you can commission them to produce one off pieces of cutlery ranging from teaspoons to serving spoons, butter knives to cake knives. I was sent one of their cereal spoons (RRP £16) which can be stamped with the message of your choice.

The cereal spoon I picked is made from brass and is then covered in silver plate. You can have a choice of handles - the one sent to me has an ornate / vintage feel to it. They only produce a limited number of each style in order to maintain the individuality and uniqueness of the finished product.

It arrived wrapped in tissue paper - a small addition but it makes it feel special from the moment you take it out of envelope. I do have a 'thing' about presentation, so I liked this touch.

Most of the personalised silver items I have seen recently have been engraved but the Cutlery Commission off hand stamped personalisation instead - they use traditional tools which result in a rather quaint look rather than a highly mass-produced / manufactured look. This results in the letters and spaces not being quite exact - adding to that hand-finished look of the items.

The Cutlery Commission produce items which suit all occasions from Birth celebrations - to Christmas - to Christenings - to Mother's and Father's Day. There is something suitable for everyone - from newborns with a Christening Keepsake to a gift for Grandparents.

I love the whimsical feel of these items - the uniqueness and the timeless appeal they will have. I can imagine these being passed down the generations. It's a gift that will last but of course being silver plated, a little polishing now and again will not go amiss. Due to the silver plating, they are not suitable for use in the dishwasher but I don't think that is a real negative as it's the materials that make it not suitable, rather than anything against the manufacturing. If you are looking for a personalised gift that will may become a family heirloom and last the generations - then this might just be for you!

Disclosure - I was given a personalised cereal spoon from The Cutlery Commission free of charge to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and are not influenced in any way.
