We're going on a Barny Bear Bug Hunt......

My children LOVE the great outdoors - you may have realised this if you are a regular reader of my blog! A few weeks ago we were sent an Adventure Kit thanks to the lovely people at Barny Bear - and the idea was that we went on an 'adventure'. As soon as I told them what we were tasked with, they insisted that we went straight away - with only twenty minutes before bedtime, we were on a mission!

My boys did not need asking twice - adventure is their middle name. I asked them what we needed to take and Sam quickly disappeared to get his rucksack to keep all the essentials safe and sound. His essentials included the adventure set we had been sent as well as a couple of Barny cakes - just in case they got peckish which of course they did!

Harry decided that we were going on a Bear Grylls adventure - and in true Bear style, we had to also hunt for our own food - thank goodness we had an abundance of blackberries growing in he hedgerow as I really didn't fancy eating worms and beetles!

Our adventures took us around the garden (field), from one end to the other - the magnifying glass came out to help us search for beetles and look at the plants more closely. We blew the dandelion clocks proving that you are never too old!

We explored the grass tip (we have a lot of grass) - and looked for beetles there - all a little elusive on this particular evening! Harry got side tracked and started looking closely at the leaves of different plant (well weeds) and looking at how they were different. We used the net to trap any unsuspecting bugs hiding in the long grass and then looked at them in the bug viewer.

All in all, we had a lovely adventure one day after school - it just shows that you don't need to plan a whole day or afternoon to have an adventure with your children - half an hour and a garden is all you need!

And the adventures didn't stop there - Sam and Harry love being outside - and there will be many more adventures in our garden I am quite sure!

This post is an entry for BritMums ‘Little Adventures Challenge’ in partnership with Barny, the bear-shaped snack providing a little discovery in every bite. Find out more about Barny here
