Something pink - the Hove Dolls House from Plum Products

It's not often that I get asked to review something 'pink' - call me stereo typical but with two boys there is very little 'pink' in my life at the moment! However, I do have a beautiful God Daughter, Pippa,  who I am very fond of which gives me the opportunity to delve into the whole 'pink' world now and again!

The thought of receiving a Dolls House for the first time ever was actually quite exciting - I've never built a dolls house and haven't owned one since I was a child - I loved it then, and the question was of course - would I still love the concept now?

The Hove Dolls House is manufactured by Plum Products and retails at RRP £40. It arrived in flat pack form and all you need to put it together is a screwdriver - even I can manage that! It was relatively easy to put together - you didn't really need the instructions as long as you had seen a photo of the finished product. I loved the fact that the screws were pink, giving it a quality finished look - it's these small effects that really make the difference in my opinion. It suggests that it takes half an hour to make - in reality I found this much shorter, although at time lining up the screws with the whole was a little fiddly. I was frightened that I might get it wrong and ruin it - but I am pleased to report that I didn't encounter any problems at all.

I love the fact that the front of the house lowers down to reveal a garden scene - and so extends the play opportunities (can you spot my early years training and teacher training coming through here?). I am also a big fan of wooden toys but do find that children like the bright colours of plastic toys - this product really does tick a couple of boxes - it's wood but is decorated in vibrant and tasteful designs. Pippa loved it!

Another element that I liked was that it came with some furniture- there could be nothing worse than receiving this on Christmas Day without being able to play with it!!! It doesn't come with any dolls but is designed around the standard 10" doll. The furniture is very well made and will no doubt last forever.

The Hove is advertised as being 'portable' and lightweight - making it easy for children to carry. I think a 3 year old would struggle as my almost 5 year old boy didn't find it particularly easy - think Mum or Dad might have to help out here!

Having receive this product to review with Pippa, the amusing thing was that Harry and Sam (plus Pippa's older brother) spent considerable time playing with it too - at one point, Pippa couldn't get anywhere near her new dolls house.

At £40, the Hove Dolls House offers a lovely present for any little girl - it is recommended for children aged 3 years and older, but with close supervision younger children will get some enjoyment from it too. I love the fact that it's made from responsibly sourced wood and comes complete with some furniture.

If you want to know more about the Hove Dolls House or all the other products made by Plum Products, why not go and investigate...

Disclaimer - I was sent the Hove Dolls House for the purpose of this review but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
