As many of you know, I love travelling and trying out new places. One of mine and my husband's favourite places to visit is Tunbridge Wells for a number of reasons - not least that it is a beautiful town in a beautiful location. My husband spent many of his teenage years there and until recently his Mother also lived there. We have fond memories of the town as it is a place that we used to escape from the rat-run of everyday life when we started dating many moons ago!
Well, now that our 'free hotel' aka my husband's Mother's house is no longer available, we have had to venture to staying in a hotel. A few days ago we were lucky enough to have business in the area which warranted an overnight stay - a perfect excuse!
I was not given the room or any other benefits in order to review this hotel - but thought that I would!
The Hotel du Vin has an imposing exterior and is located very close to the town centre. Although there is an excellent restaurant inside which I have eaten in prior to this visit, it is surrounded by good restaurants and bars should you be interested in venturing further afield.
We had booked one of the cottage rooms which was located just across the car park from the main entrance (attached to the main building). After we had checked in we were shown to our room by a very polite receptionist - nothing was too much trouble it felt.
The room was quite unique in that the bathroom was situated down some stairs - it made a refreshing change to the usual 'box' shape of a hotel room with the bathroom off the bedroom. The bathroom was lovely - a large bath positioned in a gorgeous room - very romantic! I loved the toiletries provided in the room - high quality as you would perhaps expect from this chain.
The bedroom itself was lovely - a large and very comfortable bed and all the home comforts you would need and more. I liked the fact that there were an array of magazines available for those of us looking for a quiet five minutes to ourselves. There were tea and coffee making facilities as you might guess but of the highest quality - there was even a Nespresso Coffee machine. It's these little things that really gave this room the thumbs up from me!
After we had been shown to our room, we went into the bar area as included in our package was a glass of mulled wine - very Christmassy! The bar man was a hoot - there was no mulled wine already prepared so he had to ask the kitchen - at least we knew it was fresh which meant that we were less annoyed by the 20 minute wait for the drinks! When it arrived, it was absolutely delicious - best mulled wine of 2013 / 2014 in my opinion.
Our first impressions of the Hotel du Vin in Tunbridge Wells were very positive. We have eaten there before (was excellent) but on this ocassion we decided to venture into the town for a bite to eat (literally a couple of minutes away). My only niggle about the hotel was when we returned to our room at about 10pm. Our room was obviously near to the kitchen and we could hear a lot of banging and clattering from an obviously busy kitchen. Whilst we understand that there was little the hotel could do about this we would request a different room next time we visit. We did let the reception know and they refunded us £10 which we were happy with.
The Hotel du Vin in Tunbridge Wells offers couples a romantic getaway in a majestic building conveniently located near the centre of this Spa Town. It is a truely lovely hotel - perfect for that special getaway with loved ones or a girlie shopping weekend. I do not hesitate to recommend this hotel (just wouldn't stay in the Cottages next time!).
